IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME: 32 WOMEN ON LIFE AFTER 50 is the title of a new book, edited by Emily W. Upham and Linda Gravenson, in which I have a piece, “It Figures,” about confronting my aging body by means of nude self-portraits. There are 31 other essays, poems, and interviews, some by famous people (Claire Bloom, Vivian Gornick, Gail Godwin, Jane Alexander, Ntozake Shange, Tina Howe, Erica Jong, Sharon Olds, Edna O’Brien…) with whom I am astonished to be keeping company. (NB: My photograph makes my hair look white. It is not. So much for transcending vanity in my elder years.) Go take a look at your poor beleaguered neighborhood independent bookshop, if any, or at your big glossy local chain store; or order it online (excellent for Mother’s Day, and only $16 list price) by copying and pasting this link: amazon.com/Fullness-Time-Women-Life-After/dp/1439109230/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=12721108334&sr=8-1
