Crafty Guys

PURLING IS NOT FOR GIRLS ONLY, if my (highly unscientific) observations are any indication: one man knitting in the subway; two men knitting in a tête-à-tête over coffee at Whole Foods on the Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Although males have dominated high fashion (and think of all the guys who stitch and bitch on Project Runway), the domestic needle arts—embroidery and quilting, knitting and crochet—have heretofore been left to us women. One friend, a professional knitter, says she’s heard that guys use this as a way to meet women. Look for needle size and yarn weight to replace astrological signs….
